Kwakwaduam Fekuw UK was formed in December 1986 when some notable indigenes of Akropong Akuapem, Ghana in London came together to organise all inhabitants and well-wishers of Akropong to form a one family.

 

The Fekuw officially inaugurated on 6 th October 1990. We operated as a non-registered charity organisation from the date of our formation until

28th June 2001 when we acquired the charity status from the Charity Commission of England and Wales with a Registration No: 1087211.

 

The acquisition of the charitable status have indeed been a significant milestone for the Fekuw, allowing for our more structured and impactful initiatives.

 

One would ask, What does Kwakwaduam Fekuw stand for? The name Kwakwaduam is an appellation given to the people of Akropong and Fekuw in our native Twi language translates as Association. Thus "Kwakwaduam Fekuw(UK)" specifically denotes a structured group of individuals from Akropong residing in the United Kingdom, highlighting the unity and organisation of this diaspora community abroad.

Our town, Akropong Akuapem in Ghana aside its rich cultural traditions had been in the fore-front of Education in Ghana. It was at this town where the Basel Missionaries from Switzerland first came to settle to sow the seed of Christianity and literacy to the people of the then Gold Coast in the year 1828.

The influence of the Basel Missionaries and the establishment of basic and middle schools institutions around 1843 as well as the Akropong Presbyterian Training College foundation in 1848, undoubtedly made this town a hub for education. It is perfectly to say that the town has produced a multitude of educated individuals, especially teachers who have contributed immensely to raising educational standards in the then Gold Coast and the present day Ghana.

 

The legacy of these institutions and the people they have nurtured continues to have a profound impact on education and society as a whole in Ghana. Thus Kwakwaduam Fekuw UK is poised in carrying on this mantle!
